Where to stay

There are many fine hotels and bed and breakfast establishments in Orkney and we are happy to offer you advice on the most convenient place for you to stay.

If you are based in Kirkwall we would recommend any of the following:

The Ayre Hotel   is a family run business overlooking Kirkwall harbour and is managed by the owners Lyall and Wendy Harray

Avalon House Bed and Breakfast is a purpose built guesthouse overlooking Kirkwall Bay

Bellavista Bed and Breakfast is a purpose built guest house near the shore around Kirkwall Bay

The Lynnfield Hotel situated on the outskirts of Kirkwall near Highland Park distillery with antique furniture and a huge choice of malt whiskies

The West End Hotel in a quiet location with a welcoming homely atmosphere

Pat Stone was the ideal tour guide - she took my friend and myself (both energetic seniors), on a fascinating and very fun tour of Orkney. We especially appreciated that she corresponded with us in advance of our time together in order to ensure that she would be taking us to the places that would have the most meaning for us. On the day of the trip, she took us to the sites and locations we had requested and then some, way above and beyond the call of duty. Not only was she knowledgeable about the historical aspects of Orkney, but also quite passionate about the events that took place. She brought the sites to life for us in a very relevant way. She also knows a lot about current Orkney, and its natural and economic development which is fascinating. Most of all, she had a fun-loving spirit and brought humor and conviviality to the day. We strongly recommend her.
